Other's Shoes

Shoes of others are
tough to follow in
and when I put on my brother's shoes,
they were rough.
Also itchy.
There are little pebbles stuck in
the inside,
and sand around the outside.
They're torn up from all the work
of an ongoing battle.
It's his personality I'm stepping into,
not just his shoes.
They're like him,
changing by the day,
but still the same item as before.
But if he stepped into my shoes,
his days would be of rest,
and comfort.
Although, there would be no work
for the non-idle hands.
It must be complicated for him
and I can't comprehend
that Iraq affects my brother's shoes.
